Fall 2011 TV show report card [Nov. 1st, 2011|04:34 am]
Once Upon a Time: A- Only 2 eps in but I like what I'm seeing. From the writers of Lost.

Desperate Housewives: A Final season still bringing the laughs. Older ladies are just fine.

Pan Am: A- Haven't flown in years, but I bet it isn't as classy today.

Terra Nova: C- Has a "been there, seen that before" vibe that it just can't seem to shake. Way too predictable.

The Playboy Club: B Already canceled and pulled from the air, should have been on cable with nudity.

Hart of Dixie: B+ Love me some Rachel Bilson though I've never seen any of her TV shows or movies, just guest spots on other shows.

Castle: A++ Kate should admit her love for Castle and get it on already.

The New Girl: B++ If you want quirky done right, get Zooey.

Body of Proof: A+ Nothing wrong with the older ladies, nothing wrong at all. (see Desperate Housewives)

Flashpoint: A++ The plane hijacking ep was pure gold.

Up All Night: A+ Kelly Bundy, how you've matured.

Suburgatory: A+ I used to live near burbs, but it was never this funny.

Modern Family: A++++++++++ Best comedy since Married with Children. Ed is the man.

Revenge: A++++ Revenge never tasted so sweet.

Charlie's Angels: B- Already canceled, remaining eps will air. I'm of the firm opinion you can never really go wrong with chicks kicking ass.

Grey's Anatomy: A These docs can operate on my funny bone and heartstrings anytime.

Private Practice: A- These docs however...

The Vampire Diaries: A+ Vampires, werewolves, witches, and ghosts, oh my, YES!!

The Secret Circle: A+ Witches haven't looked this good since Charmed.

Nikita: A+ What Alias Season 5 should have been like.

Fringe: A+ The ultimate weird science.

Chuck: A+ Final season, will be missed.

Returning soon: Bones, expecting it to be A++.

The MacGyver [Jun. 30th, 2011|04:19 am]
There's no such thing as a cool looking mullet. MacGyver's hairstyle looked way cool, IMO. So even though it fits the technical definition of a mullet, I refuse to consider it a mullet. Even though everybody, including Richard Dean Anderson himself, called his hairstyle a mullet, I will never consider it a mullet. Because there's no such thing as a cool looking mullet. His hair looked great and he wore it well. Mullets are supposed to be incongruous and ugly. Mac's hair was anything but.

So how about we call it The MacGyver instead?

The Human/Vampire romance to end all human/vampire romances [May. 21st, 2011|01:36 am]
Forget The Vampire Diaries' Elena and Stefan

Forget True Blood's Sookie and Bill

Forget Twilight's umm, Belle and whoever (Haven't watched anything Twilight yet, but eventually will)

Forget Forever Knight's Natalie and Nick

Forget whatever other human/vampire romance I'm forgetting or don't know about yet from any book, movie, TV show, and other media.

Just saw Let Me In. Owen and Abby. Seriously. Awesome.

Saw Kick Ass a few weeks ago. Chloe Moretz is insanely talented.

tv and dvd [Jun. 21st, 2010|01:00 am]
Thoughts and stuff.

Desperate Housewives - not too exciting, liked how the bad guy got what was coming to him - will check out next season to see why old bad guy is back

Heroes - pretty bland ending, the best part was Ando 'supercharging' Hiro, enabling him to mass teleport everyone to safety - all Samuel would have needed was Ando to supercharge him instead of all the gathering of the heroes stretching out the season - this has already been canceled :(

Castle - great stuff as usual, still so frustrating that nothing further happens between him and Kate - can't wait for next season

Melrose Place - didn't watch this for the plots so whatever - pretty sure this was canceled

Lost - well, I fully expected to be disappointed by the finale and yep it was very disappointing, it's like the old "If you try to fail and succeed in doing so, have you failed or succeeded?"

Mercy - I tend to like shows with strong female characters so I liked this one. I think it was canceled already.

Modern Family - LOVE THIS SHOW!!! Already renewed.

Cougar Town - see Modern Family ^

Bones - ahh, the hoping for the main male and female to get together and the annoying things that keep them apart, see Castle, The X-Files, etc. Already renewed for at least 2 more seasons.

Fringe - the 'Walternate' was so chilling and redhead Dunham so hot - renewed

Vampire Diaries - Anna should not have died!!! - renewed

Grey's Anatomy - shocking, even after I figured out who the shooter was before he appeared, loved the part where Derek has just been shot and Meredith is screaming while Christina is pulling her away - renewed

Private Practice - sorry to see Dell go, I like the spunk Derek's younger sister brings to the show - I think this was renewed

V - great moment when Joshua called Lisa his queen - not sure the status of this show

Chuck - awesome fun - status unknown, but I hope it will be renewed

Smallville - one of the better seasons - renewed, but Season 10 will be the last :( If S10 has similar or higher ratings and viewers than S9, which had much improved ratings and viewers over the past few seasons, then they should really consider adding more seasons or do some spinoffs.

new stuff

Flashpoint - new eps started recently, not sure if this was already canned and they're just burning off remaining eps, or maybe this was always to be a midseason summer show - whatever the case, it's the only CBS show I watch, though I do want to check out Big Bang Theory and How I Met Your Mother at some point

A few new summer shows are just starting up, watched two premieres a few hours ago:

Scoundrels - not bad, but way too early to make a determination just yet - will check out a few more eps

The Gates - Everyone is jumping on the vampires and werewolves bandwagon and here's another one. What's up with all of that lately? Twilight/True Blood mania running rampant with no end in sight. It's like if the shows has vampires, then it must also have werewolves, and even throw some witches into the mix. Vampire Diaries has all three and does it well. The Gates throws all three at you right off the bat and though it's too early to tell yet, enough with the "vampires, werewolves, and witches, oh my!" already. Will check it out further, and if the story sucks, probably stick around just for the ladies.

Rookie Blue - this doesn't start until next week, but I'll check it out because of Missy Peregrym, who was Candace on Heroes, the chick who could make you see what the Company(Primatech) wanted you to see.

No Ordinary Family - A new show that will premiere in the fall, but I wish it would air sooner. There's a void of superheroes, what with Heroes being canned and Smallville going into it's final season, that this show will hopefully fill. I liked the preview, which is available at abc.com

Don't know much about other shows yet.

DVDs - Thank god for DVDs, or I'd never get to see cable shows.

Weeds - watched all currently available seasons on DVD - Love it!! So damn funny. Can't wait for new season to air and DVD to come out for it.

Star Trek: The Next Generation - currently working my way through Season 4 - Data strives to be human - Sometimes, I think it'd be better to be an android.

La Femme Nikita - just started Season 1, like it so far

Stargate: The Ark of Truth and Stargate: Continuum - finally got these dvd movies and loved both - I hear there's going to be another Stargate DVD movie coming and one for Stargate Atlantis. Speaking of which, finally got SGA S5 on DVD so was able to see how it ended.

Also, the two MacGyver TV movies, Lost Treasure of Atlantis and Trail to Doomsday was finally released on a separate DVD. It was previously only available in later versions of the complete MacGyver DVD set. I got the seasons individually so I've been waiting for this to come out for a while. Haven't watched the DVD yet, but I did see the movies when they originally aired.

I think that's it for now.

It seems like I'm living from one crisis to the next, wondering not when the next shoe is going to drop, but how many f'ing shoes are there and why are they all stepping on me?

TV [Dec. 21st, 2009|04:45 am]
Since its all reruns or holiday specials now, I can finally catch up on watching my dvds. But first, the verdicts so far.

Desperate Housewives - still funny, but the mucho wacko Katherine plot seems to be pushing it too far too fast

Heroes - hate the whole Samuel/carnival story, but the rest is okay

Castle - love the interplay between Castle and the women in his life -mom, daughter, and Beckett

Melrose Place - I've only caught a few eps here and there of the original series. This isn't great, but the women sure are nice to look at...

Modern Family - best comedy since Married With Children - IMHO Ed O'Neill can do no wrong

Cougar Town - all the sexual humor is great, plus the ladies are nice to look at

Eastwick - like this one but its already cancelled, but thankfully they are showing the remaining eps

Bones - still great, but I still don't like "kewpie doll" Cam - What happened to their boss from Season 1? He was only supposed to be on sabbatical for a year.

Fringe - keeps getting better

Vampire Diaries - I like this one and want to check out True Blood and all the Twilight stuff

Grey's Anatomy - still into this one

Private Practice - improved over last season

Smallville - still love this show, but they need to kill off Zod already

Dollhouse - another one already cancelled, though it was shocking this got a second season, when Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles was a way better show - Surprisingly, this has gotten way good after the canning notice

V - I barely recall the original. I like this version a lot, though I have two nitpicks about the premiere. Both are what I thought was bad CG FX: - where the guy was running from the crashing jet (that whole sequence looked so obviously fake) and the other with the door on the ship opening upwards also looked fake

Still haven't checked out Flash Forward yet. Chuck back soon, can't wait!

Need more time to watch [Sep. 28th, 2009|01:11 am]
TV

Back into the fall TV season. So far I haven't had much time to watch. I have a lot of premieres taped on my VCR or recorded on my computer from the TV tuner cards I installed in it.

Desperate Housewives - taped, not watched yet

Heroes - love it still, though I see a lot of ppl bashing it now. Methinks they doth protest too much ;) If I manage to watch one full season of a show, I will continue with it till it dies. That's always been my M.O.

Castle - love the chemistry between Castle and Beckett

Melrose Place - normally I wouldn't be watching this type of show... oh heck, who am I kidding? If I had the time, I'd watch 90210, One Tree Hill, and all the other young adult soapy primetime dramas just for the ladies. I've only see a few eps of the originals and none of the 90210 reboot, but for whatever reason I felt compelled to check out the MP reboot. Not great, but not terrible either. I'll probably stick around for the ladies. Most recent ep taped but not watched yet.

Modern Family - Can't really go wrong with Al Bundy. Finally a decent comedy. I should probably watch Big Bang Theory and How I Met Your Mother. Keep hearing awesome things about those two. I seem to subconsciously shun CBS shows and I don't know why.

Cougar Town - I liked the premiere. Will check it out further.

Eastwick - taped, but I'm guessing I'll like it, what's not to like about 3 hot women with power?

Bones - funniest show that's not a comedy, it would put most comedies to shame

Fringe - still otherworldly awesome

Grey's Anatomy - not too swayed by the premiere, but I know it'll get better

Vampire Diaries - never saw or read Twilight, want to see True Blood, I understand the vampire craze, this one is not too bad so far

Smallville - taped, not yet watched, but I know I'll love it

Dollhouse - still good, though I liked Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles better, at least Summer Glau will be on this show now

Stargate Atlantis - damn it, I was looking forward to Season 5 in syndication, but the station here pulled it just after repeating Season 4.... What's the point?!!?!! Just show the rest of it you bastards!! I guess I'll just have to wait for a good deal on the Season 5 DVD. Got S1-S4 DVD in a great deal, don't remember the exact amount, but I think it was less than $30.

Still waiting for Private Practice to premiere. Looking forward to the return of Chuck. I briefly considered FlashForward, but don't know if I will give it a go.

Reasons never to move to or live in Philadelphia [Aug. 9th, 2009|12:44 am]
I hate this city so much.

- Drunk drivers can sue their victims and win. A drunk driver slammed into another car at an intersection. The other car flipped over and landed on its roof. Victim required a brief hospital stay. Drunk driver was fine. Drunk driver sued the victim and the judge ruled in his favor. The kicker? Not only was the guy drunk, he was using a suspended license and the car he was driving was not his, but his friend's and the car's registration was expired.

- The city fines you from $75 to $200+ for all manners of stupid violations, including:
# taking out the trash too early (Trash must be put out after 7 pm the night before trash pick-up day.) Many of my neighbors put it out early in the morning, hours before 7. I myself usually put it out at 5 pm. Yet on two occasions, I got a violation notice in the mail with a $75 fine. None of the neighbors got a notice.
# not keeping your lawn trimmed and neat (Grass must not be over 10 inches high. This also extends to weeds that love to grow in back driveways. Exceptions include trees, shrubs, bushes, "gardens".) I put quotes on garden because it isn't clearly defined what they consider a garden. None of my neighbors mows their lawns on a regular basis so overgrown is the norm. I have more flowers and other clearly non-grass plants on my lawn than any of my neighbors yet to my knowledge, I am the only person to get fined. I got fined even when I didn't have the flowers.

The city should stop inventing stupid fines for nonsense violations in order to generate money to fix the economic crisis and fix the damn budget by stopping overspending on crap.
The previous mayor's first official act was to spend $30,000 bullet-proofing the windows in his office.

There's TONS more stupidity in this hellhole of a city. I'd list more, but I can't even continue at this point.

UGH!!!

I wonder if the bad economy caused this or this caused the bad economy... [Jul. 6th, 2009|12:58 am]
Why is it that whenever I go shopping, I always see people blatantly taking stuff from the shelves and walking right out without paying while I get treated like I am robbing the store at gunpoint when I use coupons???

Lousy day for shopping [Jun. 26th, 2009|12:05 am]
Could not buy a single thing today. I encountered idiotic cashiers and managers at every store I went to today. Ugh. I guess the bad goes with the good because yesterday was an excellent day for shopping. Got five 12-pack boxes of Mountain Dew, which I haven't had for many, many years. Also, 4 packs of hot dogs, and a few other things, all for under $5.
